House LGBT Caucus Responds to PolitiFact Rating of DeVos Letter

Washington D.C. -- The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus responded to the PolitiFact rating of a letter, signed by several Caucus CoChairs, expressing concern about Betsy DeVos’s family’s foundations support of groups that support so-called “conversion” therapy.

“It is unfortunate PolitiFact got lost in semantics rather than focus on the issue at hand,” said LGBT Equality Caucus Executive Director Roddy Flynn.  “It is important to understand that whether an organization says you ‘must’ do something, or you ‘should’ do something, the fact is that they are advocating for something.  In this case, they are advocating for conversion therapy – exactly what was stated in the letter.”

“The goal of this letter was to shed light on Betsy DeVos and her ties to anti-LGBT organizations,” Flynn continued.  “It is critical our Secretary of Education is someone who will support the rights and safety of all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and Ms. DeVos must reject any group that stands in opposition to these values.”
